Yet again it had been another long night out until 4am. We had partied hard and somehow got separated. Magically appearing back in our hostel (without our keys…and without our dignity), we passed out in our beds and woke up with one hell of a hangover.
We’ve all been there and most definitely have done that but after swearing to whomever religious affiliate you choose to pray to that you’ll never do it again, how do you find a cure?
That’s where the classic bowl of Tripe Soup steps in…
Cow Stomach Soup is great for any hangover!

As I walked through the town square of Old San Juan, I happened to pass a small shop that had a daily special of tripe soup. Briefly recalling that this was a good remedy for a hangover or feeling sick (and no I have no idea where I heard this) my buddy and I stepped inside to give it a go.
Placing our order and shortly thereafter receiving this massive bowl of red soup along with a side of rice and some sweet tea, we actually really enjoyed it! It had a pleasant, tomato like aroma and the flavor was out of this world!
Later looking at some of the ingredients, I found that this Caribbean dish hosted tomatoes, capers, sofrito and of course tripe (aka cow stomach) among with many other ingredients that are actually good for you. This dish is a great source for Calcium, Zinc, Protein as well as an antitoxin called Selenium which is great aiding in the cleansing of the body.
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever had prepared for you? Would you like to try a bowl of tripe stew?

I have had tripe and stomach many times. Stomach I don’t mind but tripe is really a hit or a miss.
Yeah both of these are pretty exotic dishes and deserve to be served with care. Its just amazing how something so unusual ( to your typical person) can be so delicious!
