If you’re looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown Kathmandu, staying lakeside at Phewa Tal (aka Fewa Lake) in Pokhara Valley is the place to go.
The placid waters are perfect for a sunny afternoon of kayaking, boating or (on occasion during the Springtime winds) sailing. But even if you’re not big into the water sports, walking along the paved path just enjoying the view or reading a book isn’t too bad of a recourse to opt out on either. There are even some locals who offer camel back rides…believe it or not!

Either way, whether you’re visiting Pokhara to go whitewater rafting down the Kali Gandaki River, hang gliding over the Himalayas, seeing Nepal’s Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave or taking in breathtaking views from the World Peace Pagoda, you must take some time to reflect on life while watching the sunset over the lake.
Here is my photo essay from the sunset I enjoyed overlooking Phewa Tal in Pokhara Valley during my recent trip to Nepal. Enjoy!

Cool I’ll check it out.
Amazing photos – looks like just the right spot for some awesome outdoor adventure! But agree with Marysia – that kid smoking is disturbing!!
Ah, how peaceful must it have been!? Looks so dreamy and serene. Lovely pictures 🙂 Reminds me of the Dal Lake in Srinagar, Kashmir. Have you been there? It’s such a beautiful place too!
I haven’t been there but if it’s anything like Phewa Tal I’d love to go! I’ll have to look into that one. 🙂
Great photos! I would love to go kayaking there–looks like a beautiful spot.
Beautiful photos. Pokhara Valley looks absolutely tranquil.
Thanks, it was very tranquil. The perfect location for a nice getaway to read a book and relax.
This looks like the perfect place to retreat. I agree with Marysia with regard to the young boy smoking, it’s so sad to see such an unhealthy habit in one so young. The influence of the west strikes again.
Yeah I totally agree Charli. I found it important to include in the article as, although the place is beautiful, the west can have a big influence (positive & negative) on where we go. We must be careful of our actions while traveling.
I really like pictures and the story, but the picture of this kid smoking is so disturbing I couldn’t really focus on the article! God, how old he is?
Yeah I thought it was very disturbing as well but I had to include it in the article as this is one of the things I saw there and it made a HUGE impression on me. Despite the natural beauty of the land there is a little pollution in the water as well as kids smoking (like this one) along the side walk. I didn’t ask his age but all I could think about at the time I took the photo were of my little sisters. Despite his smoking habit, I can only hope he quits in the coming years for his health as well as the little ones health. Also, there was an older kid with him so I assumed it was peer pressure that lead to it. The older kid wouldn’t allow me to take his photo.
