It felt as if I was stepping back for thousands of years while walking upon the rice fields.
The bright green paddies had been a staple crop of Vietnam for centuries and, as I walked amongst the outskirts of Sapa on my way to the small villages, I could see that time had no reflection here.
The locals continued their daily routines of working the farms, caring for cattle and logging throughout the forest.
But for me, I continued to hike further into the remote countryside; gaining as much distance from the local town as I could and immersing myself into true, Vietnamese culture.
Walk with me as I step away from the local, raw markets of Sapa and trek into local territory for my very first Vietnamese homestay. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the wondrous views of rice paddies throughout the valley as much as I had!
Rice Fields of Sapa, Vietnam
Have you ever seen the breathtaking and scenic ricefields of Sapa, Vietnam?
Photos are spectacular Ron – I love how green the whole country is, and also love that you include photography of locals – the photo of the Vietnamese baby is my favorite!
Photography of locals is a big thing to me. You can get as much as you want from the land, and it gives you a great perspective as well as a step back in time. But when you get great shots of the locals, you can get a more in depth view of their culture; how the land has aged them over time as well as place you right in the center of history itself as if you were stepping back, centuries in time.
Thanks Megan, I though the baby was very adorable. He had a remarkable smile. 🙂
Great photos! So green and pretty. Love the ones with the locals (especially the little guy- so cute!)
Thanks Hannah!
Stunning photos!! Now I want to go 🙂
You should totally plan a trip out (and let me know when you do)! I promise it wouldn’t be a waste.
Nope, never, I want to- Vietnam is tied threeways with Borneo and Myanmar to visit! These photos are stunning…. when I was a teenager I was always obsessed with Chinese films (House of Flying Daggers, Hero, etc) and still have yet to make it to Asia. These photos are stunning.
Those are all great films; very cultural and insightful. I hope you make it out one day soon.
Wow, you have truly captured the beauty of the rice fields in your photos! I love how lush and green everything is. So cool, and really liked seeing the people that live there, too!
Thanks Lauren, I try my best. 😀
Oh my goodness it’s so beautiful! It’s like the rice fields just keep going and going it doesn’t ever look like it ends. I’d love to visit here, I’m sure it’s even more spectacular in person.
It sure is a special place. And you’re right btw, even when you’re there in person the rice fields DO seem to go on forever in a glorious display of layered greenery!
These are amazing photos! I would love to visit Vietnam and this area–it looks so beautiful and peaceful. It’s fun to see the photos of the locals, too!
Thanks Jenna, Vietnam is quite the place. 🙂
Sapa was easily one of our favourite places in all of Vietnam. The laid back attitude of the locals mixed with the mountain air made it a magical place!
Totally agree! I think my favorite part was certainly staying with the locals in their homes and eating fresh cooked food. Till this day, still the best rice I had ever eaten! 🙂
